Acer America Corporation in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, has announced a voluntary recall of defective notebook computer lithium-ion batteries that contain Sony-made cells.
Approximately 27,000 notebooks are affected in the defective battery recall. The lithium batteries can overheat posing a fire hazard.
There have been 16 reports of the notebook batteries overheating. These reports were associated with an earlier recall by other computer manufacturers of batteries that contain Sony cells. The previous reports contained minor property damage and two minor burns. However, none of the prior reports involved Acer notebooks.
Consumers should use the AC power cord until a replacement battery pack is received.
