A one-year old boy was tragically killed in a driveway accident, on Thursday, when a car backed over him, according to hospital officials. The boy’s grandmother was a passenger in the car at the time of the accident.
“We just heard a thump,” said the sobbing Grandmother.
The infant was killed in an alley located behind the Grandmother’s home at 8 p.m., Thursday, said an officer with the California Highway Patrol.
The grandmother said the infant was covered in blood when his mother ran over to him following the accident. Rescue performed CPR prior to transporting him to Kern Medical Center where he later died.
Neither the driver nor the grandmother saw the boy as they began backing out of the driveway, on their way to the grocery store. Officials say they believe the car was going 2 mph when the accident occurred.
The accident is still being investigated.
